Cathy A. Johnson-Delaney, DVM DABVP-Avian Practice

Dr. Johnson-Delaney is a 1980 graduate of Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She has practiced avian and exotic companion animal medicine in the greater Puget Sound area for more than 25 years. Dr. Johnson-Delaney is board certified by the Am Bd of Vet Practitioners in Avian Practice and received the 2003 Exotic DVM of the Year Award.

During her career, she has advanced the cause of exotic animal practice through her involvement with the Association of Avian Veterinarians, the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, and the laboratory animal field. She is considered one of the world's leading authorities on endocrine disease and multi-neoplastic syndrome in ferrets and she is deeply involved in continuing clinical research. She serves as Medical Director for the Washington Ferret Rescue & Shelter, consulting veterinarian for the Oregon Tiger Sanctuary and the Pacific Primate Sanctuary.

Dr. Johnson-Delaney is an international speaker on all aspects of nontraditional companion animals and is the author of the best-selling Exotic Companion Medicine Handbook for Veterinarians, published by Zoological Education Network. She is a member of the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, Association of Avian Veterinarians, Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians, American Association of Zoo Veterinarians, American Society of Laboratory Animal Practitioners, American Association of Laboratory Animal Science, Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians and the Association of Northwest Avian & Exotic Veterinarians.

Stephani Knutson: Veterinary Assistant

Stephani earned her B.S. degree in Biology at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington in 1990. She worked as a Zookeeper for the Boise City Zoo for 5 years prior to that during the summer seasons while she went to school, and 1 summer for the U.S. Forest Service working on habitat improvement. In 1990 she began work as a veterinary assistant at the Exotic Pet and Bird Clinic where she worked with Dr. Skip Nelson and Dr. Cathy Johnson-Delaney. During this time she also volunteered at the Woodland Park zoo in various departments as assistant and docent (Nocturnal House, Pheasantry, Raptors, Gorillas), and designed a traveling educational display for the Tree Kangaroo Species Survival Plan. In 1993 Stephani chose to take the position of Head Birdkeeper at the Cougar Mountain Zoo, but decided to return the the Exotic Pet and Bird Clinic in 1994 where she remained until 2005. Stephani is also an artist working in the media of Pen &Ink, and creates embroidery designs for home and commercial embroidery machine. At the end of 2011. she returned to work for Dr. Cathy Johnson-Delaney as veterinary assistant at the Avian & Exotic Animal Medical Center.

Holly Carter, D.V.M. 

Dr. Carter has worked for the last 11 years in small animal and exotic practices in the Puget Sound area, and in Essex England.. She obtained her veterinary degree at the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, in 2000. While there, she was active in the Zoological Society, serving it as president during her 4th year. She conducted research on iguana husbandry and paramyxo virus in snakes. She also earned a coveted spot in the exotics elective course at the London Zoo, and Whipsnade Wild Animal Park.

Bob Brewer, Receptionist

Bob Brewer graduated from CalPoly, San Luis Obispo, CA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Science with a concentration in Marine Biology. During college he worked in an animal hospital, then moved on to Marineland in southern California. It was there that he worked with dolphins, orcas, walrus, sea lions, birds, alligators, fish and invertebrates. His personal pets have included dogs, cats, rodents, rabbits, reptiles, amphibians and birds. He has lived in the Pacific Northwest for 20 years and considers it home. Bob is a veterinary assistant and joined the staff at the Avian & Exotic Animal Medical Center in 2011
